- Title: L'Esprit d'Escalier
- Publisher: Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther König
- Exhibition: Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin
- Format: Hardcover

Published in conjunction with the exhibition held at the Irish Museum of Modern Art in 2007, this catalog provides an overview of Thomas Demand's current work through 23 large-format photographs, video projects, and architectural installations specially created for the museum.
The central themes are stairs, ladders, and elevators.

The title refers to the concise French expression for the frustration of not having the right comeback, the unfortunate retort that comes to mind too late (i.e., while descending the stairs), "I should have said (fill in the blank)!"
One of Demand's ironic references to the title is a new work titled "Landing," which depicts fragments of a broken Qing dynasty vase scattered on a staircase.
This accident was caused by a visitor to the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge in January 2006, who tripped on their shoelace and collided with three 18th-century vases, shattering them.
